It's an opinion that makes sense, for when cultures and civilizations are under attack, they seem to gather together all the hearth and campfire stories, all the porch tales that previously existed as nebulous oral traditions, as happened to the Mycenaeans when threatened by the Greeks, the Greeks when threatened by the Romans, and the Romans when threatened by a barbaric world. Botkin, in his introduction, opined that the corpus of southern-related folklore developed just before the War Between the States, through the period of the War, and into the rapacious Reconstruction Era following. This is a collection of all manner of stories, legends, fables and historical snippets pertaining to the south, and the range of subject matter is indeed exhaustive.

5/24/2023 0 Comments The kill artistThe story features a vivid and fascinating supporting cast, including the magus-like Ari Shamron, a beautiful French Jewish model who is seeking retribution for her family's death in the Holocaust, and a marvelously comic down-at-the-heels London art dealer. The architect of this plot, a Palestinian zealot named Tariq, is a lethal part of Gabriel's past, so as the two begin an intercontinental game of hide-and-seek, with life and death as the prizes, the motives are as personal as they are political. Now Ari Shamron, the head of Israeli intelligence, needs Gabriel's particular kind of experience to thwart a Palestinian plot to destroy the peace negotiations in the Middle East. But when his wife and son fell victim to the danger that accompanied him everywhere, Gabriel quit and devoted himself to the work of art restoration, an occupation that had previously been a cover for his secret assignments. Gabriel Allon had a simple but brutal job: he tracked down and eliminated Israel's terrorist enemies. From worldwide bestselling author Daniel Silva, praised by Newsday for "bringing new life to the international thriller," The Kill Artist is a taut and elegantly structured novel about a reluctant hero and his mission to destroy an old enemy and preserve international peace. There are a ton of different POV's in this book - which can somewhat get a bit confusing while listening to the audio - but it's really enjoyable at the same time. I absolutely adore these books and they definitely get me into a Disney mood. Now I've never made it past book 4 so I'm really intrigued what the next one will give me. Beyond addicting and I'm always hooked for another Disney adventure. There's just something about retellings that grabs me into the story. I'm trying to make it so it's one book a day or so but dang it's hard. So I'm not going to lie, I'm devouring this series so freaking easily. Their 'relationship' reminded me of Maleficent - the movie. It was also really interesting to see the three fairies not being all goodie goodie too. Going into Maleficent and reading her story - well, there's no reason to doubt why she became the way she did.
